Payment brands Chase, Apple Inc., and PayPal Holdings Inc. round out the report\u2019s top 10 list for the quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The results indicate the computing giant showing up in 45% of all brand phishing attempts\u00a0\u00a0in the second quarter, dwarfing brands like Amazon (11%), Google (3%), Apple (1%), and PayPal (0.5%).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltransactions.net\/phishing-attacks-on-the-financial-sector-increased-45-in-2020-akamai-report-finds\"><strong>Phishing emails<\/strong><\/a> look authentic, but contains links that, if clicked, are designed to capture legitimate data. One example may have a \u201cYour Subscription Has Expired\u201d subject line and appear to come from Microsoft, but the link in the email goes to a fake Microsoft login page.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-38711 tie-appear\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltransactions.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/getmeoutkeyboardredWP.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltransactions.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/getmeoutkeyboardredWP.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.digitaltransactions.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/getmeoutkeyboardredWP-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.digitaltransactions.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/getmeoutkeyboardredWP-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.digitaltransactions.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/getmeoutkeyboardredWP-70x70.jpg 70w\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a brand phishing attack, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltransactions.net\/phishing-gets-even-fishier-as-online-criminals-turn-a-security-protocol-to-their-advantage\/\"><strong>criminals<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0try to impersonate the official Web site of a well-known brand by using a similar domain name or URL, as well as a design that mimics the genuine site, Check Point says. The scheme follows several paths to hook unsuspecting consumers. The link to the fake Web site can be sent to targeted individuals by email or text message, or a user can be redirected during Web browsing. Or the fake site may be triggered from a fraudulent mobile application.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCybercriminals are continually increasing their attempts to steal peoples\u2019 personal data by impersonating leading brands.
